“Do you have your book?”
“No, I left it at home.”
“Hey, why don’t you get this book? It looks like something you would like.”
“Yes, I already have it!”
“Have” can mean that you own something or that you are currently carrying it with you. It’s usually clear which meaning is being used, but occasionally it might be confusing.
“Oh, I have a pen like that one.”
“Really? Can I see?”
“I don’t have it WITH me. It’s at home!”
「本持ってきた？」
「ううん、家に置いてきてしまった。」
「この本を買えば？君が好きそうな本だけど。」
「うん、もう持ってるよ！」
Have は、「何かを所有している」と、「今持ち歩いている」の両方の意味があります。通常はどちらの意味なのかわかりますが、たまにはっきりしないことがあります。
「あ、私も同じようなペンを持ってる。」
「本当に？見せて！」
「今持っていない。家にあるんだ！」
