If someone who is about to die is saved, we say they were “snatched from the jaws of death”. If you almost lose a game or competition but then win, you “snatched victory from the jaws of defeat”.

今にも死にそうな人が助かったら、「死の口の中から救い出された」と言えます。負ける寸前でゲームや試合に勝ったら、「優勝を敗北の口の中からつかんだ」と言います。
