判断がup to youなら、好きに選んでいいです。どの映画をみても構わないという友達と一緒に映画館に行ったら、どの映画をみるかはあなた次第です。
If a choice is “up to you” you can decide yourself. If you go to the movies with a friend who doesn’t care which movie you see, the choice of movies will be “up to you”.
“I can give you the notes from class, but it’s up to you to learn the material and pass the test.” 「授業のノートはあげれるけど、覚えてテストに合格するのは君次第だ。」
自分にしかできないことにもup to youという表現を使う事ができます。合格すること、新しいスキルを身につけるのは簡単なことではありませんが、誰かが変わりにできることでもありません。助けてもらうことはあっても最後は「君次第」です。
Something that only you can make happen is also “up to you”. It may not be easy to pass a class or learn a new skill, but nobody else can do it for you. People may be able to help you, but in the end it’s “up to you”.
