“You want the whole report done today? That’s a pretty tall order.”
A tall order is something that’s difficult, maybe impossible, to do. An “order” is an instruction to do something. Imagine a long list of things to do or items in a big order in a restaurant—if you hold it up straight, it will be tall.
「今日中にレポートを完成させろと？難しい注文だな。」
「高い注文」とは難しい、もしくは不可能なことです。「Order」とは命令、注文、指示という意味です。やらなければならないことのリストやレストランで注文された料理のオーダーを想像してみてください。縦に持つとそれは「高い」です。
