“I borrowed my father’s car without asking, but I can’t stay away forever. It’s time to go home and face the music.”
“The music” is the negative consequences of our actions. If someone is going to be punished for something they did, we say they will face the music. We often use this phrase when we are resigned to the unpleasant results of our behavior.
「お父さんの車をだまって借りてきたけど、いつまでもお父さんを避けるわけにはいかない。そろそろ帰って罰を受けるよ」
The musicとは自分の行いの悪い結果です。何かをしたが為に罰を受ける人は、「face the music」と言います。自分の行動が招いた悪い結果に諦めている状況でよく使う表現です。
