Phrase of the Week: Another Day, Another Dollar

“Another day, another dollar.”　「もう一日、もう一ドル。」

朝仕事に向かって行くときにこのフレーズを使うことがあります。少ない給料のために毎日同じ仕事をしていて少し退屈しているという感情を含めていることが多いです。アメリカの１９世紀の船乗りが実際一日一ドルのために働いていたときにできた表現だそうです。

You might hear someone say, “Another day, another dollar,” as they leave for work in the morning. This phrase usually means the speaker is feeling a little bored with doing the same job every day for a small amount of money. It is said that sailors in 19^th century America started using this phrase, when they were actually paid one dollar per day.
