Terry: No, I made it from scratch.
When you make something from the raw ingredients, you make it from scratch. If you use anything pre-made, like a sauce, mix, or frosting from a can, you cannot say it was all made from scratch. But you do not have to grind your own flour.

何かを原材料から作り上げると「from scratch」と言います。ソース、ミックス、缶詰のアイシングなど、もう用意してあったものを使えば全部手作りとは言えません。ですが、自分で小麦をすりつぶさなくてもいいです。
