Steve: Okay. I guess I could use a breather.
When we say we “could use” something, it means we would like it, although we may not actually really need it. After working for three hours, a break would be nice. Steve has been working hard and deserves a break. But if he really had to, he could keep working. (A “breather” is another word for a break.)

スティーブ：そうだね。そろそろひと休みしたいね。
直訳すると「使えた」ですが、必ず必要ではないけどできたら「欲しい」という意味になります。3時間働いていたら、そろそろ休憩がしたいかな、という感じです。スティーブは仕事を頑張っているから、休憩を取ってもいい頃です。でも本当に終わらせなければならない仕事なら、このまま働き続けるでしょう。（「Breather」も休憩という意味です。息抜きみたいなものです。）
