The point of no return is a place where, if you go any further, you will not be able to go back. For example, if you have fuel or supplies for a ten-day journey, if you travel away from town for more than five days, you won’t have enough fuel or supplies to get back to the city if you give up on your goal. It can also be used when you cannot go out the same way you came in, such as because the door locks behind you or you go down a steep cliff you can’t climb back up.
「引き返すなら今だ。もうすぐ帰還不能点を通り過ぎて帰れなくなる。」
帰還不能点は、これ以上進んだら帰れなくなるところです。例えば、10日間の旅の燃料や備えがあって、町から離れて5日間以上続けると、もし目標をあきらめた場合に出発した町に戻るには燃料や備えが足りません。他にも入った道を使って出られない場合に使えます。例えば、入ったら扉に鍵がかかったとか、登れないほど急な崖を降りて入ったなどの状況です。
