In English, a mansion is a big, expensive house that belongs to one wealthy person. It may have as many rooms as an apartment building, but they all belong to the same person. The owner probably has to hire maids and other staff to take care of such a giant house.
日本語の「マンション」は、高級なアパートのことです。アパートと呼ぶには大きいものもありますが、結局は一つのビルの中で色んな人がそれぞれの部屋を所有している一物件にすぎません。英語の「マンション」は、この写真のようなお金持ちが所有する大きな豪邸のことです。アパートと同じぐらい沢山の部屋があるかもしれませんが、すべて個人のものです。おそらく、所有者は巨大な豪邸を管理するためにメイドなどを雇わないといけません。
