When we use the word “meet” with people, it usually means “meet for the first time” or “meet at a certain time or place”. If you say, “I met my cousin,” without mentioning a time or place, it sounds like you might have met him for the first time, because he lives far away. If you already knew the person, it’s better to use another word. “I saw my cousin during spring break.” “I visited my aunt over the weekend.” “I went out with my friend last night.” But it’s okay to use “meet” with an arranged meeting time and place. “Let’s meet at your house and then go to the mall.”

「meet」を使って人の話をする時は、通常「出会う」もしくは「場所や時間に待ち合わせをする」という意味になります。場所や時間を言及せずに「I met my cousin. いとこに会った」と言うと、遠くに住んでいるので初めて会ったという風に聞こえます。知っている人なら別の単語を使った方がいいです。「春休みの間にいとこに会った」「週末に伯母さん家に行った」「夕べは友達と出かけた」。でも待ち合わせの場合は「meet」で大丈夫です。「あなたの家で待ち合わせして、それからショッピングモールに行こう」
