Frank: I know. He’s gotten really busy with work lately.
“Recently” or “lately” mean “in the period of time leading up to the present.” The starting point may not be clear. Bill may not remember exactly when Ted stopped hanging out with him, but he remembers a time when they hung out often.
ビル：前はいつも一緒に遊んでたのに、テッドは最近付き合い悪いね。
フランク：そうだね。最近は仕事で忙しいんだよ。
「Recently」や「lately」は「今より前のある程度の時間」、つまり「最近」という意味です。「最近」はいつ始まったかがはっきり分からないかもしれません。ビルがいつからテッドと遊ばなくなったか覚えていなくても、二人が以前よく遊んでいたことは覚えています。
